Compile to CIR/MLIR

Instead of going into LLVM IR directly, any interest in going into things like CIR/MLIR, which open up another huge domain of use.

That could be a good option. Especially I may want to introduce an intemediate IR representation to further lower to llvm or other backends, where the intemediate IR could be a dialect of MLIR.
But currently it is not the first priority. I would like to finish the major functionality first.

Maybe something like a Python dialect, but how to deal with typing in the dialect will be a problem. But CIR is a good candidate, as it allows you to re-emit C with appropriate support and working at something that is very close to original C semantics, and the CIR can be lower than things like scf, llvm or even some FPGA backend. I am happy to contribute when I have time available, as this aligns very much with my interests.
