notion block not saved as markdown

Hello,

I tried to use the following command: notion block append <page-id> --file notes.md

The content gets saved on Notion. However, most of Markdown syntax is not parsed into rich text but stay plain text.

Are there plans to support the update page as markdown endpoint (replace all page content)?

Hi @shillem, thanks for reporting this.

I just tested block append --file on the latest main branch with a comprehensive markdown file and confirmed that inline formatting is being parsed correctly into Notion rich text:

• Bold, italic, code, strikethrough → rich_text annotations ✅
• [text](url) → rich_text with href ✅
• Headings (h1-h3), bullet/numbered lists, quotes, code fences, dividers, todos → correct block types ✅

Could you share a sample .md file (or snippet) that reproduces the issue? It would help narrow down whether it's a specific syntax pattern that's not handled.

Regarding the Update Page as Markdown API — good call. That endpoint lets Notion handle the parsing server-side, which would be more robust for complex documents. I'll look into adding support for it (likely as a --markdown-api flag or similar).
