Running in initramfs

Hi, super cursed question but that's just the way it is

I want to run kmscon from and on a custom initrafms for space savings. Essentially, as a barebones GUI replacement with curses. Essentially the initramfs will contain some kernel modules, kmscon, and the executable application (this means no systemd either; maybe).

Any suggestions on how to do that?

I'll struggle through it either way.

iirc you have to embed the binary and systemd service to initramfs (and also disable getty)

Oh, and expect kmscon clashing with plymouth/unl0kr over control of the GPU

Thanks for reminding me this existed. After looking into it more, I thought about using LVGL but come to think of it again this might do.

No, in this case, the whole os would be in the initramfs. Targeting 100-150mb total compressed.

Maybe tinker with NixOS at first since it does away with most of the boilerplate

Of course, that distro isn't exactly lightweight or easy to use (it is relatively easy to maintain though)
