Priority: Long-Term (Research/Grant alignment)

Description

As X-ray CT temporal resolution improves, researchers are capturing 4D operando scans of batteries swelling and degrading. To model transport through these deforming microstructures, we must integrate with Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) tools.

SPAM (Software for Practical Analysis of Materials) is the open-source standard for calculating 3D strain fields from tomographic time-series. We will build an ecosystem bridge demonstrating how to map SPAM's DVC displacement fields to OpenImpala's transport solver to map tortuosity evolution over time.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Tutorial: Create notebooks/dvc_spam_integration.ipynb showing a pipeline: Load State A and State B -> Run SPAM DVC -> Apply deformation field -> Solve Tortuosity A vs B.
  • Research Validation: Document how the AMReX solver handles artificially deformed (warped) voxel grids generated by DVC without requiring complete re-meshing.
