Upsell/upsize button, when Maximum Container Size reached

@helgatheviking This feature request may be more general than the wc-mnm-mobile-styles plugin, but that's the UI where methinks it would make the most sense. 😄

The basic idea is, when a user has selected enough items to reach the current MnM Maximum Container Size, and the Add to Cart button becomes clickable, then a button like "Upsize" should also become visible.

• If Upsize is clicked, then the container size is changed to a larger MnM product, to either:

  • a backend/wp-admin previously designated upsell product — for regular MnM products
  • or, the next larger variation (if there is one) — for variable MnM products

• Ideally, the previously selected items/quantities smoothly "carryover" into the upsized MnM product, saving the user time as they finish filling out their upsized MnM product.

Such a feature would be useful for all parties; happy to do a sponsored-dev project, if you'd like.

p.s. I think there was another loosely-related idea/Issue we had a dialog on, about how to save and use user favorites (saved in session or db) that could be called on to quickly fill MnM products, but not sure what issue that was...

This issue would probably relate more to variable mix and match so i have moved it. You just don't see the default add to cart button when the mobile footer is enabled. Though for everything to work together the footer plugin would need to update its UI as well.

so you are thinking of a prompt to upsell folks once they have a full pack? I can see the value in that I suppose, just not something I can work on for a bit as I am headed out of country for training until mid november.

storing the selections is sessions is an issue in mix and match core though i thought selections persisted when you upsized variations? and only cleared when downsizing, but it's been a minute since i have been working in variable mnm.

@helgatheviking Belated thanks for your reply; to answer your last point above, currently (with latest MnM 2.8.5, VMnM 2.2.4) selections are lost when either/both upsizing or downsizing, unfortunately.

Yes, some kind of prompt/button to step up to the next size (when the user has maxed-out current MnM variation's size-limit) would be valuable. Preserving selections into the next size-up would also minimize friction and unwelcome surprises. Thanks for considering this!

@limist Hi Kai... I know at one point it seemed worse to me to have an overfull container because it was impossible for a customer to resolve... which is still the case currently due to some overly aggressive input validation. If I dial that back it will allow customers to decrease the quantities if they are overfull.

Do you think customers would prefer having 32 selections that need to be trimmed down to 24 versus starting from scratch? While I am shifting attention to another iteration of variable mix and match (without variations), it is a pretty simple fix to delete these lines.

Or instead of an alert, it could be a confirm that asks if you want to reset?

@helgatheviking Thanks for the update; when downsizing, I think it's fine to ask/expect the user to decreate the quantities as they see fit (so long as it's clear they need to do that, in order to save the new downsized configuration), and it's less disruptive than starting from scratch.

When upsizing, it would similarly be great to preserve their prior selections too, following the principle-of-least-surprise. 👍

Somewhere along the line it wasn't possible to decrease your way out of an overfull container. but i don't think that's still the case... or I have a local commit which changes that... which would make the clearing of selections on variation switch unnecessary.
