Keyboard not detected in VM; mouse only works in Tablet mode

When running a VM using CloakBox, the mouse works only when the pointing device is set to USB Tablet, but the keyboard is never detected under any configuration. This prevents completing OS installation or interacting with the guest environment.
Steps to Reproduce

1. Create a new VM using CloakBox.
2. Boot any ISO (tested with Windows 10).
3. Try interacting with the installer using keyboard + mouse.
4. Switch pointing device between PS/2, USB Tablet, and Multi‑Touch.
5. Observe that only the mouse works (in Tablet mode), while the keyboard never registers input.
   Expected Behavior
   Both keyboard and mouse should be detected by the guest OS so installation and normal interaction are possible.
   Actual Behavior
   • Mouse works only in USB Tablet mode.
   • Keyboard is not detected at all.
   • VirtualBox logs show:

• The issue occurs before the OS loads any drivers, suggesting a hypervisor‑level HID attachment failure.

Additional Technical Details
Before running RUN OUTSIDE VM.ps1 , both keyboard and mouse worked normally inside the VM using the same ISO and configuration. After running the script, the VM’s input stack changed in a way that breaks keyboard detection:
• Mouse only works when the pointing device is set to USB Tablet
• Also no USB devices are detected
• Keyboard stops working entirely under all pointing devices (PS/2, USB Tablet, Multi‑Touch)
• No keyboard device appears inside the guest OS during Windows Setup
• The issue does not occur on a clean installation of official Oracle VirtualBox
Based on behavior, the script appears to modify host‑side VirtualBox configuration, including:
• Overriding or replacing VirtualBox’s default HID keyboard device
• Injecting custom USB HID identifiers
• Disabling or altering PS/2 keyboard emulation
• Modifying DMI/SMBIOS/ACPI tables
• Changing how VirtualBox exposes input devices to the guest
After these changes, the guest OS no longer detects any virtual keyboard device at all, even during early Windows Setup where PS/2 input normally works.
This suggests the issue is tied to the host‑side modifications applied by the script rather than the VM configuration itself

i don't know how helpful this is but i just did

cd "C:\Program Files\Vektor T13\VirtualBox"

VBoxManage.exe modifyvm "VM_name" --keyboard usb

run it with USB Tablet, inside it still spoofs the USB identifiers, allows me to copy and paste out, and doesn't detect for what I need it for not a fix, but though it might help some people out.
