ADLs are assessed differently in 2015/16 and forward, however the function adl_fun has not been changed to consider this. In the earlier cycles, the need for help for each task was assessed simply as yes/no; but in 2015/16 and 2017/18, this changed to four categories, considering the level of difficultly doing the task in addition to whether help was needed (1- no difficulty; 2- yes difficulty but does not require help; 3- yes difficulty and requires help; 4- cannot do at all). The function to create the 'number of activities needing help' variable does not consider this change. It should combine 1 and 2 as 'does not need help with the task' (equivalent to 'no' pre 2015), and combine 3 and 4 as 'needs help with the task' (equivalent to 'yes' pre 2015).
