can't play on phone

there seems to be no local player. when I open ensemble the player already selected on my music assistant is the default. play / pause happens on that player. the local phone/app isn't in the list of players, either in the phone or on the server - do I have to set one up somehow?

Did you ensure MA is able to discover the Sendspin player? Please check your Firewall settings, because it works on the basis of discovery. Potentially a VPN could cause issues if it changes your gateway as well.

Here's what I have in MA as far as providers goes:

Everything there is working fine. MA can see uPnP players, it can play to existing devices, including a sendspin bluetooth proxy. I don't have a firewall in the way, my MA is running in host mode.

I just can't seem to select anything other than the players I already have setup. If I select an existing player in Ensemble, it plays there just fine, there just isn't a "phone" or "local" player in the app.

Look at your MA logs if it even sees the player that gets broadcasted from Ensemble. It works fine on my end for multiple devices (phones/tablets).
Is mDNS active for your Wifi Network?
Do you use the physical MAC address on your phone or a randomized one?

The issue can't be with the app, there is something between thats either not configured the right way or there is some things activly blocking the player discovery. So if you open the app, the Sendspin player of Ensemble should pop up after 1-2 seconds. I use it as my daily alarmclock together with HA automations, so I can definitely confirm that the app/player is working fine.

Only thing I noticed (for which I already opened an issue) is that if there is a network issue for a few seconds the player will vanish and will not return till a reboot of the app. Compared to my VoicePE, Ensemble seems to only broadcast its exisitence only once, when my VoicePE does it over and over again. In the MA logs I can see that it dismisses the multiple broadcasts as the player is already in the list.

what is the name of the player that Ensemble uses? I assume something with "ensemble" in the name?

Depends on device, but mine for example says "ensemble_szene_BP2A.250", so yeah it should begin with "ensemble_" I assume.

nothing appears in my logs at all. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, tna. Other devices appear and disappear (like Bluetooth devices that are switched off, and new browser sessions). Not sure what else I could have wrong. mDNS is working, wled devices and esphome devices pop up when they should, with .local addresses.
