Assessment Cheating Checks

• Check clipboard history
• Check if a student highlights questions (since a common cheating mechanism is selecting text and then open with Google)
• Check when a student is leaving the page (tab unfocusing)

Less feasible ideas:

• Honeypot: Whenever we detect a user is cheating, we give the user a question they can only find if they look on google (either super specific details or from different adaptations of the book) (maybe using AI)
• Randomly order questions, then see if the order a user answers them matches another user's quiz
• Timestamp when a user selects something and compares it to their classmates time of answering the same question

Unfeasible ideas:

• use seating chart to see if answers are similar to those around the user

Idea for how to test this:

Give kids a test, and tell half of them to cheat and tell the other half not to cheat.

Another idea is to have everyone cheat, but have the teacher walk around and try to find the cheaters. (The teachers would be told the above, that half were cheating.) If a student was caught, they would lose, so students would be incentives to hide their cheating.

New less feasible idea:

• Create an algorithm/ml model? That can classify or detect a specific behavior to flag a student. It would be triggered after two answer options are considered by the student (detected by them being selected or mouse movement). If this behavior is followed by the window being unfocused, and then when refocused the correct answer being chosen, the student is marked as suspicious and could trigger other countermeasures or alert teachers.

oh yea I just came up with a better way to detect cheating put the page in fullscreen, then if they exit it we log it and put them back into fullscreen.

partial marking opportunity now that I think about it, but it helps to discourage cheating since now they can't see their "macbook 10 min didn't read at all" study guide 1 tab away
so we have a 3 pronged attack:
cheating discouragement: make it require more steps and remove obvious distractions while taking a test
cheater catching: passive code that catches cheaters
cheating finding: active code that tries to find cheaters
