I received SMS from a contact of mine (identified and saved in my contacts) but the content of messages only appears in the android notifications. I can send messages to them, those appear in chat, but it doesn't solve or change any aspect of the problem.
It appears to only affect that conversation so far, since I received sms from another identified contact and those did appear in notification and chat. I have no pattern to reproduce this bug, alas.
I don't know if I can send a report in any way, I'd be glad to do so if possible.
