Not an issue per se, but it may be worth pointing out in README.md that the pebble emulator doesn't work in Wayland (at least in my case on Ubuntu 24.10), so you'll need to use X11. More and more Linux distributions are shipping with Wayland as default now.

You are absolutely right. Maybe it would be a good idea to also add support for Wayland.

Hi @FBarrca I had a bit of a tinker with it.

The entrypoint.sh script doesn't seem to pick up the $WAYLAND_DISPLAY environment variable from my system. I suspect this is because I was running Docker as sudo, and $WAYLAND_DISPLAY isn't declared in a session running as root.

To eliminate this, I edited the docker-compose.yml file to explicitly set the variables as seen by my standard user account:

environment:
  WAYLAND_DISPLAY: "wayland-0"
  XDG_RUNTIME_DIR: "/run/user/1000"

After adding myself to the Docker group , I ran the container again, but as a standard user this time, docker-compose down and docker-compose up, and verified that these variables were correctly applied by checking within the container itself:

(.env) ➜ /workspace echo $WAYLAND_DISPLAY            
wayland-0
(.env) ➜ /workspace echo $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
/run/user/1000

However, when I tried changing to the build directory and ran pebble install --emulator aplite, the emulator did not display.

That's really odd. Wayland is working on my end, but I'm using 24.04.1 LTS with WSL2, so it might be handled differently. I haven't encountered any issues. I might spin up a VM and check over the weekend.

Just to check, the entrypoint.sh is logging "Detected Wayland" in the logs? or are you getting "No GUI system detected, defaulting to host.docker.internal:0"

I wonder if it's a difference between docker versions? I'm using Ubuntu 24.10.

Tried again. Although pebble install --emulator aplite still isn't launching a GUI on my system, running docker in the context of my standard user does see the correct environmental variables passed through.
