Is KeyboardChatterBlocker incompatible with .NET 10?

I'm on Windows 11 Professional. A program I used (DisplayFusion) updated today, and the new version installed .NET 10, which seemed to blow away my older .NET Framework 4.8.1, and Windows will not allow me to reinstall it, reporting that a later version is already installed.

Since this update, KeyboardChatterBlocker has ceased to record chatter logs or stats, and either no .csv file or a zero-byte .csv file is created — nor does it seem to be eliminating chatter.

I've tried reinstalling KeyboardChatterBlocker with both the Windows installer version and as a the standalone .exe; neither version works anymore.

Is anyone else having this problem? Thank you!

New .NET release disables old .NET programs, a story old as time.

It should definitely be possible to install .NET Framework 4.x on Windows 11 still. I have dotnet 10 and ye olde framework still side by side on my own win 11 pro machine.

You can check terminal command: reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full" /s which will report installed .net framework v4 version, that'll narrow down whether you have a genuine missing net framework issue or if it's something else. I suspect it will be something else.

If the program runs, and even creates an empty csv file, then it's not a missing framework install issue. A missing .net framework should manifest as the program failing to run with some amount of error popup.

You can try opening a Windows terminal in the folder where the exe is and running .\KeyboardChatterBlocker.exe, this will show if any error messages are present only in the terminal view. If dotnet 10 was running the binary for some reason it should complain loudly in the terminal and fail to launch.

If it's not the framework issue, other things to check:
Possibly the configuration got altered (ie just open the UI and configure it and you're good from then on).

Or possibly there's some external factor not yet considered. If you play online games, some anticheats have been known to conflict with any software that touches your hardware, including this project (and everything else up to eg OBS screen recordings were recently broken by Valorant's anticheat). Or maybe you have some other software that also interacts with OS keyboard signals and is conflicting.

Before posting the issue, I tried closing/killing just about everything else that was running simultaneously or in the background. It made no difference.

Registry reports: 82405

Running from the terminal command line produces no error message; it just loads the app.

I don't play any games on my computer.

KeyboardChatterBlocker was working fine until DisplayFusion forced the update; it certainly stopped working on the same day (and I know correlation is not causation, but it's still suspicious).
