link text not readable

I've had a few problems with the colour of text over images/videos. These problems seem to be more acute with the default colours of link text. Can you contemplate any other default colour and text style for links that is likely to be more successful?

one idea I have for the text problem: placing the text on a semi-transparent box that complements both text colour and link colour. Maybe a button could be provided to conveniently enable/disable the box in one click.
