New repository to maintain and develop this extension

Hello Gittenburg,

It appears that this extension has not been actively maintained for some time. I’m interested in taking over its maintenance to ensure compatibility with current MediaWiki versions and to support ongoing development.

Here’s what I propose:

• Fork the repository for active development and archive this original repo.
• Update the extension to meet current MediaWiki standards.
• Revise and maintain the extension’s page on mediawiki.org.

Working proof of concept for MediaWiki 1.43:

• See this commit.
• Includes a new language, several bug fixes, and new configuration options for better integration with modern skins like MinervaNeue and Vector-2022.

Current plans for the extension:

• Add integration tests and adopt a release-branch compatibility strategy for easier maintenance.
• Further UX improvements for modern skins.
• Primarily focused on maintaining compatibility and providing support. I plan to add VisualEditor integration this month; beyond that, no major new features are planned.

Please let me know if any formal steps or permissions are needed to move forward. I’m happy to coordinate with past maintainers if necessary. All original credits will be preserved, and you’ll be prominently acknowledged as the original creator in the updated README.

I already did some work. See new detached repo. With working releases for currently supported MW versions (1.39, 1.42, and 1.43) in their release branches.

First, I'd like to express my appreciation for your work in creating this extension. After some discussion with some MW folks over at discord, we've decided to take over the extension page. All links are redirected to the new detached repository.

What's New?

• Detached Git repository for continued independent development.
• Code updated for compatibility with currently supported MediaWiki versions: 1.43 LTS, 1.42, and 1.39 LTS.
• Switched to a release branch compatibility strategy.
• Dutch added as a supported language.
• Improved translations across all supported languages.
• Removed the outdated Minerva Neue integration, replaced with a new workaround for MediaWiki ≥1.39.
• New configuration options introduced for UI behavior (MediaWiki ≥1.42):
  • $wgAttachmentsShowInNamespaces: Default true for 1.39, false for ≥1.42.
  • $wgAttachmentsShowInViews: Default true for 1.39, false for ≥1.42.
  • $wgAttachmentsShowEmptySection: Default false.
• Removed hook ShowEmptyAttachmentsSection in favor of the new config setting.
• Page property values now stored as JSON strings, as non-string values are obsolete (when querying via the API).
• Added basic Selenium integration tests to verify extension functionality.
• Fixed a bug with anchor translations.

What's Next?

• Ongoing maintenance and compatibility updates with future MediaWiki releases.
• Support for uploading file attachments via VisualEditor.
