<dd>"any plant with thick fleshy tissues adapted to water storage. Some succulents store water only in the stem and have no leaves or very small leaves, whereas others store water mainly in the leaves. Most succulents have deep or broad root systems and are native to either deserts or regions that have a semiarid season."</dd>
<dt><mark>Cactus</mark></dt>
<dd>"any of numerous succulent plants of the family Cactaceae, of warm, arid regions of the New World, having fleshy, leafless, usually spiny stems, and typically having solitary, showy flowers."</dd>

<p>The picture to the upper right is my favorite succulent - the bear paw. As you can see it is a bit fuzzy, and every one of it's leaves looks like a little claw!</p>
<p>Succulents need a very quick draining soil, as they can rot if their soil is too wet or densly pakced. This recently happened to one of my newest succulents(which I had not potted myself) that almost completely rotted. I was able to save a few through the technicque I am about to outline- repotting succulents.</p>
<h3> How to Repot Succulents </h3>
<h4> What you will need: </h4>
<ol>
<li>River rocks<i>(can be found in home improvement stores or in your yard)</i></li>
<li>Sand <i>(can be found in the same two places)</i>
<li>Potting soil</li>
<li>A pot (preferably with a drainage hole)</li>
</ol>
<h4>Instructions</h4>
<ol>
<li><b>Place</b> the river rocks on the bottom of the pot - <i>you can also mix some in with the soil</i></li>
<li><b>Mix</b> the soil and the sand - <i>I have also layered sand and then soil</i></li>
<li><b>Pour</b> the mixture into the pot. </li>
<li><b>Poke</b> a hole large enough for your succulent's roots and stem.</li>
<li><b>Gently place</b> your succulent in the soil.</li>
<li><i>if you have extra rocks then put a few over the soil</i></li>
<li><i>lightly wet the soil when you are finsihed - use a mister or a trickle of water</i></li>
<p>You can take cuttings of most succulents and grow another from it</p>
<p>For example, that rotted plant I was talking about earlier, I cut off the good parts and repotted those. But for other plants you need to do a bit more.</p>
<p>I have another plant that I grew from my sister's wedding flowers. I was able to get it to spring roots by letting it sit in water for around a month</p>
<h3>Growing succulent roots</h3>
<h4>What you will need</h4>
<ol>
<li>A shallow jar or container of some sort</li>
<li>Water</li>
<li>A sunny spot</li>
<li>A succulent plant</li>
</ol>
<h4>Instructions</h4>
<ol>
<li><b>Take</b> a cutting of your plant - <i>be sure to pick off any dead leaves and trim any rotted stem</i></li>
<li><b>Fill</b> the jar about an inch with water </li>
<li><b>Place</b> the plant in the water with only the edges od the stem in,try to keep the larger portion of your cutting out of the water</li>
<li><b>Place</b> the jar in a sunny spot</li>
<li><b>Check</b> the jar every other day - making sure that the plant is doing well and continues to have water</li>
<li><i>After a week, you should see some progress, if the roots have begun to grow, follow the planting instructions, if not continue until roots grow</i></li>
</ol>
