Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I've enabled the auto show/hide toolbar features; much of the time it works well. But often I tap somewhere in a text box to focus it, or to move the cursor, intending to paste something at that location or to select all text to copy it — just for the toolbar, with the Select/Copy/Paste buttons on it to disappear in order to show suggestions to replace whatever word is at that place.
Describe the solution you'd like
Have an option to only show suggestions when typing. In this mode, suggestions would appear (hiding the toolbar if auto-hiding is enabled)
- after a key that enters a letter or number is pressed
- after Space or a key that enters punctuation is pressed, if next word suggestions are enabled,
... but the toolbar would be shown instead of suggestions
- after focusing a text box, even if it puts the cursor in/after a word
- after any cursor movement, including by tapping, arrow keys on the toolbar or keyboard, spacebar swipe etc.
- after any selection or deselection, or cut/copy/paste/delete actions etc.
- after a space or punctuation is entered, if next word suggestions are disabled.
There should probably be only a few actions that don't change the toolbar's visibility, such as pressing Shift on its own, or toggling Incognito mode.
Note: While I referred to the suggestion as "only show suggestions while typing", really the focus is on only hiding/not showing the full toolbar while typing. There's little point in not showing whatever suggestions are available if the result is just an empty suggestion bar. So perhaps the option should be in the Toolbar settings menu, it should only be visible if auto-hide or auto-show is enabled, and called something like "Only hide toolbar to show suggestions while typing". Likewise, if some mode where the full toolbar and suggestions are visible at the same time were implemented, like #695/#2263 or #2278, this setting shouldn't have an effect in that mode.
Use case
See above. With this option, it would almost always get it right which one out of toolbar and suggestions I may want to use, so I would almost never have to toggle the toolbar manually.
