Use case

Show name (for few seconds) of overlay chosen from overlay selection bar.

When you have multiple overlays with the same icon, or you named it well, but there is not a proper icon to assign, it is nice to see overlay name shown for few seconds, to be sure which one it is.

Proposed Solution

Some small popup, or app overlay should show at top of the screen or at selected overlay.

Like the one at the bottom of this screenshot. (but a bit smaller)

Thanks for the suggestion! Few things to note, which maybe you're not aware of (or are, but dislike them? It would be quite useful to know why, if so!):

• you can change the color, and not only the icon for Custom Overlays (I say that as you seem to have 4 green circles for custom overlays, which seems suboptimal even if there was no icon that catches your fancy - you should still be able to create dozen of different colored circles which would disambiguate them)
• you can click on overlay selector (second icon from the right on the top of the screen) instead, which already shows a name of the overlay

I think it's called Toast in Android lingo. I personally find them extremely annoying when they happen too often. I'd say it is fine (almost) always to show a Toast when there is an problem, otherwise for informational messages it should never appear more than at most once per several minutes or so.

And I enabled "Overlay Quick Selector" because I change overlays a lot. Like, easily several times in 10 or even 5 seconds. Having a toast on each change would guarantee that useful part of the map is practically always overlaid by useless (to me) toast (As new one would pop up while old one has not even disappeared yet in many situations when I'm using the overlays) - that would be very annoying.

TL;DR: So, perhaps, if existing features are not enough (but maybe they are?):

• some other approach might be employed (e.g. like in EveryDoor, where long press on the overlay icon gives you its name? but in SCEE that currently does edit custom overlay, so maybe double-click on it to just show the name?)
• or, allow to use more icons so the issue does not arise in the first place (perhaps all from id-quests-presets? or ability to upload custom ones? - partly related to #770)
• or, if implemented in a Toast, there should be a toggle in SCEE settings to enable such behaviour

Yes, I know, about this, on some I have assigned a icon to it, but even though you need to remeber, what tag is selected in each overlay, and it's a bit hard, when I have 12 of them.

Yes, I know, but this right panel was added to make it faster to change between overlays and I like this feature (thank you). Most of the times when I need to change overlay I do it via this panel, only when I do not remember which tagging I assigned to that overlay, only then i open this menu, to see names of overlays. So this feature would be helpful, to just click on overlay in right panel and see and know overlay you have selected.

In Vespucci, after selecting node, or trying to edit map, while not having unlocked data layer this "popup" is being showned. This is how I can imagine name of the layer to be shown, but on grey background.

Okay, I think I did not provided good screenshot example. The Vespucci one is better, so I do not think Toast is what I imagine.

Something like this, but a bit smaller, just between star and circles. With white letters.
