Why we go back to Gradle ?

Sorry, I don't get why, the template changes again for Gradle builder again.

Actually this new changes, isn't working properly on VScode.

Although this will always be opinionated, I also agree that moving to gradle is a downgrade.

This template was never gradle. ALSO I didn't know that this would go to gradle. @oskarscot this issue is for you to handle.

Gradle is the standard when it comes to JVM build systems and has much wider support compared to maven. It makes no sense to use maven for the plugin-template if there is no tooling or support for it.

You are welcome to debate Maven vs Gradle but ultimately if the rest of our projects use Gradle, there is extensive tooling made for Gradle to support and improve Hytale dev experience then keeping maven is pointless. Going back to the original message, I just cloned this repo fresh and opened it in vscode and it worked flawlessly given you had the official Java Language Support installed

Maven is the standard for companies :

• is much older and more supported by editors (need an extension on VSCode for Gradle).
• use native XML, a very old markup language, that natively easy to manipulate.

Gradle is often best when multiple build and performance is required :

• performance is meaningless when you run in live your server to test your plugin
• use 2 different DSL (Groovy VS Kotlin), meaning 2 different learning curve

Actually, I can't even start a fresh project with the actual gradle configuration (wrong java version, I don't investigate for now).
The upcoming new dev coming to discover modding on Hytale, will stick to the default choice, nobody will try to switch building tool, it's pointless.
But I think, it's limiting for new dev, it's tell them "use IntelliJ, stick with Gradle, other IDE don't support it well".

Gradle is already the standard for minecraft modding and any new hytale modder coming from minecraft would find it easier to work with imo

Yes, and it was choose by "The Forge gods" because it can decompile the Minecraft code.
Hytale code is already available and will give a more easy access to their code in future.

Gradle was not choose because it was the best, but for technical constraints.
In 12 years of works for Java tech companies, I never used Gradle, it's look like alien language for me 😱.
And it's use a plugin, hiding more how it's actually work inside.

I think the project must add a README, to explain how to configuring this build tools.
