Current status of working on the images in order of priority:

1. R image: awscliv2 bug and rgee bug. Should collaborate back with Eli to see if we can improve the py-rocket-geospatial-2 base image with these fixes
2. isce3 GPU image, need to add conda packages isce3-cuda and potentially add cuda-version. Right now I am running a script to find a compatible tensorflow2 base image with the most recent version of isce3-cuda

COMPLETED:

1. R image: .Renviron and .Rprofile fixes merged. R base image published for VEDA: mas.dit.maap-project.org/root/maap-workspaces/2i2c/r-base:develop
2. Pangeo: change to VEDA base image (public.ecr.aws/nasa-veda/pangeo-notebook-veda-image:2025.12.30-v1) and add MAAP extensions on top
3. tensorflow2 and pytorch base images with MAAP extensions on top. Published here: mas.dit.maap-project.org/root/maap-workspaces/2i2c/tensorflow2:develop and mas.dit.maap-project.org/root/maap-workspaces/2i2c/pytorch:develop. PR: Add gpu images maap-workspaces#190

• confirmed that isce3 most recent version cannot be installed in pangeo/pangeo-notebook base image

3. isce3 image: pushed develop image and merged PR with updated packages. Documentation PR

@wildintellect I am testing the r image mas.dit.maap-project.org/root/maap-workspaces/2i2c/r:develop
and we were installing essentials from CRAN but it looks like it has been removed because they were not correcting issues: https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/essentials/index.html
How essential is this package for users? Should we remove it or use an archived version?

Rgee also doesn't work and I am looking into fixing that. Other than that, all packages load that we are installing

Drop essentials, it looks somewhat obscure, and I can't even find the source origin for it. Seemed to supply a very small number of functions. If we discover deeper integration we can go back and look to solve or inform users of what's now broken.
