Extension won't render footnotes properly

I'm using the latest version available on the marketplace, but can't render any footnotes on the preview. E.g.

As you can see, just copying from the examples given in documentation renders every footnote example as pure text.

I've also included some unrelated lines to show that the extension seems to be working otherwise.
