bug: app does not display the selected app language

Bug description

The app keeps reverting to what appears to be Norwegian despite English being selected. I can change the language to English and it will work until I close the app and open it again. Then it will revert to Norwegian. It should be noted that I'm not Norwegian and my system language is not Norwegian so it's not that the app reverts to the system language. It's a strange bug. I included the debug logs but it says it could not read the log and something about code 1.

I did some further testing. If I switch my system language to English the app changes to English as well. So the whole Norwegian thing appears to be some kind of mix-up in the translation files. Either a bad translation job or accidental mixing of translations.

As far as I can tell the app language setting is broken in some way and therefore it reverts to system language when the app is launched. It should be noted, as per the screenshot I uploaded, the actual setting in the menu sticks and never changes but the language always matches the system language regardless of what the string says.

Maybe there is no problem, the translation is just not perfect, or there is an error in some strings that causes the language to be reset as a fallback.

From my testing it doesn't matter what language I select, it will always revert to the system language. If I select languages where the translation is only partial it will reflect that when I select it but reverts to the system language when I close the app.

In other words: the only functional way to select a language is changing it on my phone, not the app. That works just fine but isn't a good solution for a broken app function.

It's just strange that only one user has this problem. So far, no similar problems have been reported.

I agree that it's strange. It seems unlikely that I'm the only user who has changed the language of the app so perhaps it's either the Android version (Android 11 but that seems unlikely too) or a device specific problem. I'll try to get ahold of another Android device to test if it behaves differently. I'll return with my findings when I've done so.

I managed to test it on an Android 15 device. It behaves correctly there. I can't figure out why Morphe misbehaves on my phone as other apps work fine when changing language. So it seems to me like a combination of a device specific problem and Morphe. Not sure if it's solvable and whether it's worth looking further into when it appears to be so unique.

Maybe it's some old app data. Clear Manager app data if you want (backup your singing key if you don't want to eventually uninstall/reinstall all patched apps)

I cleared app data and the issue persists. I'll reiterate that Morphe is the only app I've experienced this issue with which is what baffles me. I just tested NewPipe to be sure as it's also a side-loaded app and I figured maybe non-Play Store apps might be treated as second class citizens in regard to compatibility. Changing the language works fine on that app.

I'll leave it up to you whether you want to pursue this further or close the issue as it does appear to be a strange edge case.

What is your device system language set to?

Danish but the problem isn't the language itself. I just tested setting my system language to English, Spanish and Swedish. Morphe will change to whatever system language I've selected.

As I mentioned previously, the language setting in the Morphe app doesn't change. It's always set to English regardless of the actual language displayed. It's more like Morphe ignores the set language on start up and checks what the system language is and displays that instead. I can change the language in the app and it will change correctly until the app closes. Then when the app starts up it will read the current system language and ignore the app setting.

However this is only true on my phone, not on other devices I've tested. This problem seems to be exclusively between Morphe and this phone. No other app or device appears to share the problem.

Is your device an Honor or an Huawei? Because these are the only brands I know which have these kinds of bugs that aren't reproducible on any other Android brand. But I'm also on an Honor and I didn't experience this...
