Hello,
I am using the FINNv2.5 MODISVIIRS daily fire emissions product from UCAR GDEX:
“emissions-finnv2.5modvrs_NO_bb_surface_daily_20220101-20221231_0.1x0.1.nc); emissions-finnv2.5modvrs_NO2_bb_surface_daily_20220101-20221231_0.1x0.1.nc)”.
I noticed that the downloaded files only include separate emissions for NO and NO2, but the FINNv2.5 paper (https://gmd.copernicus.org/articles/16/3873/2023/) refers to NOx, and the emission factor is described as “NOx as NO”.
I would like to ask two questions:
Is there any official FINN-produced NOx emission output available, especially NOx as NO, that I can use to compare against my own calculation?
If not, when using the public NO and NO2 files, is the correct way to reconstruct official FINN NOx as NO:
NOx(as NO) = NO + NO2 * (30/46) ?
My concern is that this simple conversion may not exactly match the official FINN NOx product, if such a product exists, or if there are any additional internal processing steps, species mappings, or mechanism-specific treatments in the released inventories.
I am asking because I want to compare my own calculated NOx emissions with the official FINN results and make sure I am using a definition consistent with the inventory.
Any clarification on how FINN defines and outputs NOx in v2.5 would be very helpful.
Thank you.
