Vision

Enable Home Assistant to interact with non-IP protocols such as IR, low-frequency RF, and serial by proxying them through remote devices, typically running ESPHome.

How to measure:

• A type of proxy is achieved when a contributor can add a new integration to Home Assistant built on top of the proxy.
  • Does IR work
  • Does serial work
  • Does RF work
• ESPHome provides a viable, repeatable path for implementing proxies
• Proxy setup is documented and easy to get started with

Stretch goals:

• A clear, supported architecture for proxying non-IP protocols via remote devices
• Multiple target protocols can be proxied using the same architectural approach
• Adding a new protocol follows a consistent pattern
• Common proxy use cases are easy to deploy
