🎨 Brand Colors (MANDATORY)

Use these exact colors - they're already configured in Tailwind:

/* Primary Navy Blue */
--color-primary: #1e3a8a; /* Use: bg-primary-900 */

/* Dashboard Gradient */
--dashboard-light: #70b180; /* Light Green */
--dashboard-dark: #e8927c; /* Coral */

/* Use in components: */
background: linear-gradient(135deg, #70b180, #e8927c);

/* Active states */
--active-nav: #3b82f6; /* Use: bg-primary-500 */

Sidebar: Navy Blue (#1e3a8a) ✓ Already implemented Dashboard: Green/Coral gradient ✓ Already implemented Accent: Blue (#3b82f6) for buttons, links, active states

📊 Sample Data: Golden Triangle BID

Use this context for all demo content:

District Profile:

  • Location: Washington, DC - Downtown
  • Boundaries: Connecticut Ave to 16th St NW, K St to Pennsylvania Ave
  • Size: 76 city blocks
  • Properties: 800 commercial properties
  • Annual Budget: $8.2M (from property assessments)
  • Field Staff: 15 coordinators (security, maintenance, events, hospitality)

Property Types:

  • Office buildings (65%)
  • Retail/Restaurant (25%)
  • Mixed-use (10%)

Assessment Rate:

  • $0.18 per square foot annually
  • Average property: 100,000 sq ft = $18,000/year

Typical Service Requests:

  • Security incidents (45%): Unattended items, loitering, assist MPD
  • Maintenance (30%): Sidewalk repairs, graffiti removal, landscaping
  • Events (15%): Street closures, permits, setup coordination
  • Other (10%): Lighting, parking, general inquiries

🛠 Development Workflow

Branch Strategy:

  1. Create feature branch:

    git checkout -b feature/operations-dashboard
  2. Build component with sample data

    • Use React functional components
    • TypeScript strongly recommended
    • TailwindCSS for styling (already configured)
  3. Test locally:

    npm run dev
    # Visit http://localhost:5173
  4. Commit with descriptive message:

    git add .
git commit -m "Add Operations Dashboard with live service feed

    - Implemented district map with patrol routes
    - Added real-time service request feed
    - Created performance metrics bar
    - Sample data for Golden Triangle BID
    - Responsive design for desktop demo"
  5. Push to remote:

    git push -u origin feature/operations-dashboard
  6. Repeat for each page

Recommended Build Order:

  1. Start with Operations Dashboard (most complex due to map)
  2. Assessment Management (table-heavy, good practice)
  3. Board Reporting (visual polish, use charting library)

📦 Suggested Libraries

You may want to add these for the demo:

For Maps (Operations Dashboard):

npm install react-simple-maps # Simple SVG maps
# OR use static image with clickable overlays

For Charts (Board Reporting):

npm install recharts # Simple React charts
# OR use Chart.js wrapper

For Tables (Assessment Management):

# TailwindCSS tables work fine
# OR npm install @tanstack/react-table

Note: Keep dependencies minimal for demo. Static images + CSS can go far!

✅ Quality Standards

Follow Phase 7 polish standards:

Visual Design:

  • ✅ Consistent spacing (use Tailwind spacing scale: p-4, mb-6, etc.)
  • ✅ Subtle shadows on cards (shadow-sm, shadow-md)
  • ✅ Interactive hover states on all clickable elements
  • ✅ Loading states for data (even if mocked)
  • ✅ Smooth transitions (transition-all duration-200)

Responsive Design:

  • ✅ Desktop-first (demo will be on projector)
  • ⚠️ Mobile not required for initial demo
  • ✅ Minimum width: 1280px optimal

Code Quality:

  • ✅ TypeScript types for all props and data
  • ✅ Clean component structure (separate concerns)
  • ✅ Reusable components where possible
  • ✅ Comments for complex logic
  • ✅ No console errors or warnings

Data:

  • ✅ Use realistic BID data (Golden Triangle sample provided)
  • ✅ Consistent naming (Initiative not Project, etc.)
  • ✅ Numbers should make sense (collection rate 95%, not 150%)

🧪 Testing Checklist

Before marking each page complete:

Build & Runtime:

  • npm run build succeeds with no errors
  • npm run dev starts without issues
  • All 3 pages render without errors
  • Navigation between pages works
  • No console errors in browser DevTools
  • No TypeScript errors

Visual:

  • Navy Blue sidebar visible
  • Green/Coral dashboard gradient shows
  • All text readable (sufficient contrast)
  • Charts/graphs render correctly
  • Tables display properly
  • Buttons have hover states

Functional:

  • Sample data displays correctly
  • Filters work (if applicable)
  • Sorting works (if applicable)
  • Click interactions respond
  • Modal dialogs open/close (if used)
  • Export buttons present (can be placeholders)

Terminology:

  • No "Project" (should be "Initiative")
  • No "Construction" (should be "District/BID")
  • No "Executive Feed" (should be "Operations Dashboard")
  • All references to Golden Triangle BID (not generic "project")

📅 Timeline & Priorities

Thursday (Today):

  • ✅ Build Operations Dashboard skeleton
  • ✅ Implement service request feed with mock data
  • ✅ Add map placeholder (even if static image)
  • ✅ Create performance metrics bar

Friday:

  • ✅ Build Assessment Management page
  • ✅ Create property owner table with sample data
  • ✅ Add collection dashboard with metrics
  • ✅ Build Board Reporting slides
  • ✅ Add charts (can use simple CSS bars if needed)
  • ✅ Polish all 3 pages for visual consistency

Saturday (Optional):

  • 🎨 Final polish and refinements
  • 🐛 Bug fixes
  • 📸 Screenshot for Ken's rehearsal

Sunday-Monday:

  • 🎤 Ken's demo rehearsal and feedback

Tuesday Nov 26:

  • 🎯 DEMO DAY at DC BID stakeholder meeting

🚨 Important Notes

  1. Demo Context Matters:

    • Audience: DC BID Executive Directors
    • They want to see: Real-time operations, financial tracking, board reporting
    • They don't care about: Perfect code, mobile responsive, edge cases
  2. Sample Data is Key:

    • Use Golden Triangle BID data provided above
    • Make numbers realistic and consistent
    • Show variety in service request types
  3. Visual Polish Counts:

    • This is a sales demo, not a code review
    • Clean design > perfect functionality
    • Navy Blue + Green/Coral brand MUST show
  4. What You DON'T Need:

    • Real API connections (mock data is fine)
    • User authentication (not in scope)
    • Database integration (all frontend)
    • Mobile optimization (desktop demo only)
    • Print stylesheets (export is placeholder)
  5. When in Doubt:

    • Check CLONE_NOTES.md for context
    • Reference existing ExecutiveFeed component for patterns
    • Keep it simple - MVP over perfection
    • Ask Ken for clarification if needed

🎯 Success Criteria

You've succeeded when:

✅ All 3 pages load without errors ✅ Sample data displays correctly for Golden Triangle BID ✅ Navy Blue sidebar + Green/Coral dashboard is visible ✅ Navigation works between pages ✅ Ken can present each page smoothly ✅ Audience sees "real" BID operations platform ✅ No embarrassing bugs or broken features during demo

Remember: This is a proof-of-concept demo, not production software. Focus on the 80% that will be visible in the presentation!
