With v6.16.0, the composite PyQt5.Qt module does not use limited API anymore

I received this bug report in Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/1143693.

The package fails to build because it expects Qt.abi3.so to be generated, but instead we now have Qt.cpython-314-x86_64-linux-gnu.so. Is it expected, or it’s a bug somewhere?

There are two issues here. There is definitely a SIP regression. The other is the support for arch-specific extensions added to Python v3.15rc1. For example, on MacOS there is now .abi3.so and .abi3-darwin.so. I assume I should prefer the latter. Therefore, when building using Python v3.15 (and SIP bugs fixed) you can't assume that the file will be called Qt.abi3.so.

Thank you! In Debian we have only Python 3.14 so far, not 3.15, but I will keep this in mind.
