Android contacts are filtered by IN_VISIBLE_GROUP

Some sync adapters (e.g., MS365/Exchange) don't mark their contact groups as visible, causing contacts to be excluded by the IN_VISIBLE_GROUP = 1 filter. If you are on board with it, I can add an opt-in includeNonVisible parameter that skips this filter when true. Defaults to false for backward compatibility. Android only; no effect on iOS/macOS.

This would be extremely useful. I currently have users reporting that not all of their contacts are being returned by the plugin. It seems that some contact providers do not mark all contacts as visible. Having an option to retrieve all contacts, including non-visible ones, would be very helpful.

Hi @mikeryder and @svprdga, thanks for the report and the offer to contribute 🙏 Just released v2.3.0 which fixes this — and went a bit further than the opt-in flag: it turns out the system Contacts app doesn't filter on IN_VISIBLE_GROUP at all (that column only backs the legacy "contacts to display" custom view). Its real filter is the provider's default directory, so getAll() now queries that instead. Net effect: you get exactly the contacts the phone's Contacts app shows — MS365/Exchange contacts included — with no new API parameter, while still excluding hidden auto-collected entries like Gmail's "Other contacts". get()/update() by ID now also work regardless of visibility. Did this solve your problem?

Hi @joachim-quis , thanks for fixing the issue. In my case I can’t really test it properly from my side because I can’t reproduce it correctly, but I’ll try it with the tester who is reporting the issue to see if it gets fixed for them, and I’ll comment here as soon as I know something.

I deployed a version of my app with this fix, and the user who was experiencing the issue has reported that they can now see those contacts and that everything is working as expected. So, as far as I’m concerned, I think this is the right fix. Thanks @joachim-quis for applying the correction!
