Problem Description

hipIpcGetMemHandle does not reject VMM allocations, leading to kernel crash and VRAM leak that need hard reboot to cleanup.

Steps to Reproduce

Any code that:

  1. Hook hipMalloc api with hipMemCreate + hipMemAddressReserve + hipMemMap
  2. Calls hipIpcGetMemHandle to get handle
  3. Passes the handle to another process/rank which calls hipIpcOpenMemHandle

In my case, this occurs when torch_memory_saver (which uses VMM APIs for GPU memory allocation) is combined with AITER's custom all-reduce, which uses hipIpcGetMemHandle/hipIpcOpenMemHandle for cross-GPU IPC during CUDA graph buffer registration.
