@EricJames-NOAA submitted a PR to MPASSIT to make it work on Hera. The PR is waiting to be merged into Larrissa's repo.
To bridge the gap, the rrfs-workflow now uses the develop branch of rrfsx/MPASSIT which has Eric's changes in that PR.
It is estimated that this sidetrack may be resolved in 1 month.
