Describe the warning
Somewhat related to #14 and #45. The San Diego region has a good number of senior communities, such as Seven Oaks or Oaks North. Currently, we assume that the ACS tract level ASE distributions are good enough that the accurately reflect areas which should contain only seniors (technically 55+ and not 65+). However, this is still only an assumption and it would be good to actually verify that the ACS ASE distributions work
At minimum, the following things should be done:
- Create a comprehensive list of all senior communities in San Diego County. Or at least get a good number of senior communities to do the checks which are listed below:
- Check how the size of senior communities line up with tracts. Essentially, it is possible that a senior community is only a single MGRA out of many within a tract. If the non-senior community MGRAs have normal population, then the ACS tract level ASE distributions like include non-senior population. Thus, the senior community MGRA must either use a separate distribution or be added to the list of
[special_mgras]with age restrictions - If/when senior communities line up perfectly with tracts, check that the ACS ASE distributions match the age distribution that senior communities should have
