While not for everybody, I think it makes sense to also provide an ePaper alternative. It's a good fit for a low-powered device like this.
Some questions:
- Are there any ePaper displays with the right specs (size, touch, refresh rate, etc)? Finding a suitable display probably requires some experimentation.
- How difficult would it be to support? The hardware is one thing, another is software. ePaper devices typically use a custom UI. Maybe this should be a sub-project of SPIRIT, to facilitate coordination of hardware and software changes of an ePaper alternative?
Some benefits:
- Extremely low power consumption
- Excellent readability in sunlight
- Doubles as an eReader
- Prevents screen addiction (very low level of dopamine hits from ePaper)

PS. I'm very excited about SPIRIT, and hope it succeeds!
