Missing WebhookHandler

Hey,

I'm trying to set up Webhooks, following the documentation:
https://github.com/Shopify/shopify_app/blob/main/docs/shopify_app/webhooks.md#consuming-app-specific-webhooks-events

It seems that the recommended approach is to update shopify.app.toml and then run:

rails g shopify_app:add_declarative_webhook --topic carts/update --path webhooks/carts_update

For any Webhook to subscribe to, which according to the documentation should set up a controller and a job.

When I run a test Webhook via the CLI, I get this error though:

ShopifyAPI::Errors::NoWebhookHandler (No webhook handler found for topic: carts/update.)

Doesn't work for me either. I have them set up in my toml file, have deployed, and can see them in my app's webhook configuration:

I've run the generators and checked the route etc.

But when I test from the CLI with e.g.

yarn shopify app webhook trigger --address https://my-local-shopify-app.com/webhooks/orders_create --topic orders/create --api-version 2025-01

I get the same as you:

This is happening due to code here. This will work for shop specific webhooks as mentioned in doc here. The declarative webhooks generator( shopify_app:add_declarative_webhook) isn't updated or buggy.

Workaround

• Add a custom controller, extending from ShopifyApp::WebhooksController, which takes care of payload verification.
• Update uri in shopify.app.toml
• add appropriate routes matching the uri in routes.rb
