[FEATURE REQUEST] Push ffmpeg, firefox and gstreamer changes as a separated patchsets #1

Description

@000exploit

I am a Gentoo Linux user on an Orion O6 system. I find it more convenient to install software from its original source and apply local patches using Portage's functionality (see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki//etc/portage/patches). This method allows me to avoid creating separate local .ebuild files or overlays to install software such as FFmpeg with support for V4L2-M2M encoders. If possible, I would like these patches to be published as specified above to avoid having to complain about custom overlays. Also, pushing changes like this may help maintainers to package this software in accordance with other distros guidelines and patches.

Current software versions (as of February 8, 2026):

  • GStreamer (media-libs/gstreamer:1.0): 1.24.11 ~1.24.13
  • FFmpeg (media-video/ffmpeg): 7.1.3 ~8.0.1
  • Firefox (www-client/firefox:esr): 140.6.0 140.7.0
  • Firefox (www-client/firefox:rapid): ~146.0 ~146.0.1 ~147.0 ~147.0.1 ~147.0.3

Legend:

  • ~: Denotes an unstable keyword; the specified version will not be installed without explicit acceptance.
  • xxx-yyyyy/foo:bar: Represents the Gentoo Linux package name format of category/package-name:slot.
  • overlay: Custom user repository that overlays the official repository.
