System Shutdown does not shut down the system

I have a pi-stomp 3 and the System Shutdown option only shows the red "pi Stomp!" screen and does not actually shut down the machine. If I unplug the machine when it's on that screen it only reboots to a white screen and I have to reformat the card to get it running again. ssh pistomp@pistomp.local does not work. I even tried plugging it into ethernet with no success.

I expect that this is not the intended behavior, but I don't know the proper way to turn the device off for transportation.

Hmm, on my machine it does shut down. One quirk of the pi-Stomp v3 is that the LCD is always powered, even when the Pi itself has halted. So it's possible that something in your case has stopped the shutdown. Do you have access to a second SD card that you can use to verify it's not a hardware issue there?
