Capture: emptying your head

Capture is the front door of the app, and the only part you must use fast. A thought lives here as a seed: raw text, no category, no decision made.

Capturing

Type the thought, press enter, done. Capture on the go — waiting for coffee, mid-walk, the second the idea appears. The bar for what "deserves" capturing should be on the floor: if it occupied your mind, it qualifies.

Good seeds look like:

"gift for Ravi — something with cycling?" "why am I always tired at 4pm" "learn enough Spanish for the Mexico trip" "cancel that subscription"

What happens to a seed

Seeds wait in the inbox until you decide, and a seed only ever moves when you move it:

  • Organize it — turn it into a real thing: a goal, habit, note, task for a specific day. The seed archives itself and the new thing lands in its section (the app tells you where, with a link). There's an undo right after, if you regret the shape you chose.
  • Later — not ready to decide? Park it. It moves out of the inbox but stays reachable.
  • Archive — the thought mattered enough to write but needs nothing. Kept, hidden.
  • Delete — gone, but only ever with a confirmation. Personal thoughts never vanish silently.

The inbox habit

The inbox works best emptied regularly, not instantly. Capture all day without deciding anything; then once a day or every few days, sit down calm and sort. Deciding is a different mental mode than capturing — the app deliberately doesn't ask you to do both at once.

Examples

You captured A good shape for it
"gift for Ravi — cycling?" One-time task on a date a week before the birthday
"why am I always tired at 4pm" A note — it needs thinking, not scheduling
"learn Spanish for the Mexico trip" A goal in your Travel/Growth area, horizon "This year"
"cancel that subscription" Task on Today. Two minutes. Just do it.
"in bed by 11" A habit, repeats every day
