Rejected Issue Reconsiderations

This thread is for reconsideration of issues that have had circumstances change since they were initially rejected. This thread is not for reconsideration of issues just for the sake of reconsideration.

Now that you are allowed to move or copy a file or a folder from an active window to a folder located inside an inactive window as a result of issue #418 being fixed, please reopen issue #353 and please fix issue #353. I thank you in advance.

Thanks for raising this. I agree it is somewhat more feasible now and would be a usability improvement.

There is significant complexity remaining in how input is processed. Right now the relevant logic around a drag gesture starting from the button-down event on an icon is to:

• activate the window
• update the selection
• check for double-click (wait for second button down within time/space threshold)
• check for drag (wait for mouse move beyond space threshold)

Supporting drag from an inactive window involves reworking that entire flow, which is already an intricate dance. The carefully tuned double-click and drag detection routines would need to get merged, which introduces significant risk of regressions.

So... I'll continue to ponder but as much as I would like this to happen it remains decidedly non-trivial.

Now that issue #353 has been implemented and now that issue #353 has been added to the Apple II DeskTop 1.5 milestone, please remove the "Won't Fix" label from issue #353.
