why we initialize new variable while doing swap

int temp we are creating a temporary variable that can store the integer value. for example

int a = 5, b= 4;
int temp = a;
a = b;
b = temp; 

here, we are swapping a and b by storing a in temporary variable and after that we are storing b value in a then at last we are initializing b = temp that means we that a value are now in b
