Loading coverage blocks neovim for a few seconds

I'm working on a fairly large-ish Rails project, and loading coverage (either via auto-reload or via :CoverageLoad) just blocks the editor for a few seconds on a fairly beefy machine.

This gets in my way, because I'm trying to use the plugin to get to a 100% coverage in some areas, and I'm running a test and then seeing how the markers change. This ends up causing my neovim to freeze for a few seconds while it's processing the markers after each test run, which is a bit disruptive.

Any ideas? I'm happy to try to fix it, if you can point me to where I should start.
