ACP-69: Change Avalanche Branding Colors from Red to Green #225

Green universally symbolizes growth, stability, innovation, and financial prosperity, all of which are critical pillars for Avalanche’s next phase. While red often signals alarm, volatility, or losses (especially in trading charts), green invokes a sense of calm confidence and forward movement. This color psychology aligns well with Avalanche’s strengths in low latency, high throughput, and eco-friendly consensus. |

I agree, this change would be great re-branding for two things:

makes sense - lets manifest green |

Green simply makes the most sense. A colour relevant to all in the space, and synonymous with winning. And in nature, a refreshing, relaxing symbol. Avax is for relaxed winners. Go green. |

Green aligns with the sustainability of the Blockchain being eco-friendly. It also symbolises growth and nature. |

Some technical details about #00b140 hex color:In a RGB color space, hex #00b140 is composed of 0% red, 69.4% green and 25.1% blue. Whereas in a CMYK color space, it is composed of 100% cyan, 0% magenta, 63.8% yellow and 30.6% black. It has a hue angle of 141.7 degrees, a saturation of 100% and a lightness of 34.7%. #00b140 color hex could be obtained by blending [#00ff80] with [#006300]. Closest websafe color is: [#009933]. Color description : Dark cyan - lime green.

As much as I love the red logo, I completely agree with Nobs POV and reasoning. Green for the win. |

I support this initiative, red is bad, green is good, how it got to red in the first place is beyond me, and actually was one of the reasons I did not bridge over to Avalanche earlier than I did. |

This is a no brainer, green is positivity and hope, red is chaos. Let's embrace the former and get rid of the latter. |

When I first saw the green logo, I thought it was a playful celebration of a bit of up-action in price, and I laughed and enjoyed the change. Now that I see that it’s a serious proposal for a permanent re-brand, I’m concerned. Our company, red·dev, is branded to connect to Avalanche. When we were a baby during COVID, the red.dev domain name was not cheap for us to buy, but that’s who we were, a company 100% committed to building software on Avalanche. We are now building a product branded as red·bridge, that bridges other coins to Avalanche, doubling down on this commitment. When Solana approached us and asked us to bridge to them instead (and offered a lot of easy money to do so) we turned them down in part because of our company identity and commitment. If Avalanche changes its color to green, we will have to re-brand as well, or, as Nobs says, “appear outdated,” and not just with a color change but also a name change. We’ve worked especially hard to make the brands red·dev and red·bridge known in the Avalanche community, so doing so comes at a high cost. That’s the impact on us, but looking at it from a broader ecosystem perspective, changing to green is just as problematic. Given how closely green and red are associated together with price candles, changing to green carries reputational risk. During price correction periods, competitors could easily FUD Avalanche as the “Oreo Chain,” for instance, “Green on the outside, but always red on the inside!” There are lots of reasons to believe that AVAX will not perform in sync with the rest of the market, so this is a concern. I would rather be a red Dorito, always pointing up, even when down. Bitcoin Cash is green. Ethereum Classic is green. NEAR (a worthy competitor btw that’s making some big moves--watch your back!) is green. Are these the associations we want people to make? Some have mentioned the symbolism of green, and I agree there are positive things about the color. However, red is considered the color of good luck, joy, celebration, and prosperity throughout Asia. Green and red are almost opposites of each other when it comes to color and emotion, so making this switch seems to me like a huge U turn, and a decision not to be taken lightly. Every comment above this one is pro-green or neutral, yet when you look to X, an informal poll shows closer to 50-50 pro and against. This says to me that there might be some group-think going on here. Red is a powerful color, and one thing we at red·dev have had to wrestle with as we use it in our branding is that it can easily overpower--a little goes a long way. I think that Avalanche could make some adjustments in this respect and improve it's branding without making such a drastic change as the one proposed here. |

ACP-69: Change Avalanche Branding Colors from Red to Green
Preamble
Abstract
This ACP proposes updating the primary branding color of the Avalanche network, including the AVAX token's associated visuals, from red (its current dominant color, e.g., hex #E84142) to green (proposed hex #00B140 or similar). This change would apply to official logos, websites, documentation, social media, and community guidelines. The goal is to better symbolize growth, sustainability, and positivity, aligning with Avalanche's innovative and eco-conscious ethos in the blockchain space. This is a non-technical, cosmetic update that could refresh the brand without impacting network functionality. Implementation would involve updated design assets and community adoption guidelines, with a phased rollout to minimize disruption.
Motivation
Avalanche's current red branding, while bold and recognizable, can evoke associations with urgency, danger, or market downturns (e.g., "red candles" in crypto trading). As the network matures and emphasizes scalability, developer-friendliness, and potential environmental benefits (e.g., lower energy use compared to proof-of-work chains), a shift to green would better represent themes of growth, renewal, and sustainability. Green is commonly linked to positive concepts like nature, progress, and financial gains ("green candles"), which could enhance community sentiment and attract eco-focused users/investors.
This proposal addresses a branding opportunity rather than a technical problem, but it could strengthen Avalanche's market positioning against competitors with similar color schemes (e.g., other red-themed projects). Community feedback has shown interest in modernizing visuals (based on potential Discussions input), and this change could foster greater AVAX token adoption by making the ecosystem feel more vibrant and forward-looking.
Specification
This ACP recommends the following changes to Avalanche's branding:
Color Palette Update:
Primary color: Change from red (hex #E84142) to green (hex #00B140 – a vibrant, accessible green; alternatives like #228B22 for darker shades could be discussed).
Secondary colors: Adjust accents (e.g., blacks, whites, grays) to complement the new primary for better contrast and accessibility (WCAG compliance).
Affected Assets:
Logo: design the Avalanche logo with green as the main fill color. Provide vector files (SVG/PNG) in high resolution.
Website and Documentation: Update avalanche.com, docs.avax.network, and related sites with the new color scheme via CSS changes.
Social Media and Marketing: Revise banners, icons, and templates for Twitter, Discord, etc.
AVAX Token Representations: Encourage wallets/explorers (e.g., Core Wallet, Snowtrace) to adopt green icons for AVAX via community guidelines.
Community Guidelines: Create a "Branding Kit" repository or download pack with updated assets, usage rules, and migration tips.
Implementation Phases:
Design Phase: Community vote on exact green shade via GitHub poll or Discussions.
Rollout Phase: Official updates by Avalanche Foundation within 1-2 months; community projects given 2-3 months to comply.
Monitoring: Track adoption via metrics like website traffic or social engagement.
Any Avalanche community member can implement this by downloading updated assets and applying them to their projects. No code changes to the network itself are required.
Backwards Compatibility
This is a forward-looking branding change with no technical backwards incompatibilities. However:
Existing red-branded materials (e.g., old logos, merchandise) will appear outdated but remain usable.
Impact: Minimal disruption; users may need to update custom themes in tools like wallets. A deprecation period of a few months is recommended for smooth transition.
Security Considerations
There are no security implications, as this is a purely cosmetic branding update. It does not affect the Avalanche network's consensus, smart contracts, AVAX token mechanics, or any cryptographic elements. Potential risks like phishing (e.g., fake green-branded sites) are unrelated and already mitigated by existing best practices (e.g., verify official domains).
