Change temp directory

Is it possible to change the directory of the temporary files outside of the public folder ?, I have a problem with another plugin that moves everything from the public folder to s3 and polly cannot put all the files together and only processes the first part in the final file I'm using the s3 uploads plugin created by humanmade and I can't find another way to fix the problem, any ideas?
