BIO: J. Magnolia Gilligan is Professor of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Climate & Environmental Studies at Vanderbilt University. Their research focuses on collaborative interdisciplinary studies of interactions between human society and environmental change. They have published over 100 scholarly articles and hold two patents. Their paper "Household Actions Can Provide a Behavioral Wedge to Rapidly Reduce U.S. Carbon Emissions" has been cited more than 2,100 times. Their paper "Beyond Gridlock" won the 2017 Morrison Prize for the highest impact paper of the year in sustainability law and politics. Their book, Beyond Politics: The Private Governance Response to Climate Change, was named one of the most important books in environmental policy of the last 50 years by Environmental Forum. Their work has been recognized with an American Geophysical Union "Voices of Science" Award, a Fulbright Scholar Award, Vanderbilt's Alexander Heard Distinguished Service Professor Award and Chancellor's Award for Research, an Outstanding Scientific Paper Award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and a Group Achievement Award from NASA, as well as the Mentorship Award from Vanderbilt's Margaret Cuninggim Women's Center.
