Use variable in the working-directory

Can we use variables in the working-directory configuration? It seems we cannot, or I miss something?

srcdir := "src"

[working-directory: srcdir]
compile:
    # some commands

[afuetterer]

I was wondering the same thing. I get error: Expected keyword xbut found identifiersrcdir``.

I copied the working-directory on top of multiple recipes, but this feels wrong.
