I need help

I know it's not much of an issue but I'm having some trouble figuring this out. There is a step "use your url server to connect to gpodder.net". The thing is, how can I find the appropriate url? I'm sorry if it's a silly question but I'm not really experienced at self hosting.

Hey, no worries. The URL you need is dynamic so there is no static value to be entered there since it's highly depending on the way you are running gopodder.

Given you are in the same network, for example, let's say your smartphone running AntennaPod is in the same network as your computer running the Docker image docker run --rm -p 8080:8080 ghcr.io/cbrgm/gopodder:latest, the URL will be the IP address of your computer and the port 8080 e.g. something like https://192.168.178.x:8080 .

As written in the readme file, things become a little bit more complicated when HTTPS is required by the client. Then you need a reverse proxy in front of gopodder, which can also sit on the same laptop, for example, where you're running gopodder on.

Once you're familiar with those concepts, the "server URL" field should make much more sense.

Hello, thank you really much for your info. I appreciate it. I'm actually running gopodder on termux on an old phone of mine. Is the process any different? Also, when docker container "goes down" are the data gone? Or are they saved somewhere? I wasn't really sure by the readme.

Good questions, but I'd honestly recommend taking a step back first: get familiar with Docker (and self-hosting basics in general) before running this in a way you rely on. Running services like this without understanding what a container is, how port publishing works, or how data persistence works isn't going to be sustainable long-term. You'll keep hitting these same questions with every new tool you self-host, not just goPodder.

The Docker docs linked above (https://docs.docker.com/get-started/docker-concepts/running-containers/publishing-ports/) are a good starting point, and specifically for data persistence, read up on volumes. Once you understand that a container without a mounted volume loses its data when removed, and that -p host:container controls which host port maps to which container port, the answers to both of your questions become obvious, and you'll be able to figure out future ones yourself.

Thanks for all the help. Looks like udocker (termux docker) doesn't support docker compose and I don't think I can't create volumes either. I guess it's not something I can do from my phone after all. Thanks again
