Debugging WRF

WRF doesn't always give useful debug errors:

on arc

1. module switch WRF WRF-Debug
2. rerun failing model with Debug

Segfault:

1. Add in ulimit -s unimited
2. Run with Debug version
3. Copy namelist.input to a back up version and iterated through likely stumbling block
4. Comment out any non standard physics settings (see Best practices NCAR page), re-introduce
5. Comment out any non standard dynamics settings

Tropics Test Debugging:

1. Set up domain
2. Missing values error in geogrid - ERA5 area not large enough for domain. reduce outer nest domain size or download larger area
3. No WRFoutput files. Degbug Check meteo_out/rsl_error.0000 files

• seg fault --> rerun with debugger
• Fix namelist errors highlighted by debugger
• seg fault --> Start commenting out non standard settings in physics or dynamics and hope. You can either use past experience to guess or go through methodically by taking a look at best practice namelist and seeing non standard options added - in this case a lake model was used but no lake preprocessing was done
