If the database server goes down

Hi developers,

I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on what to do when the database server goes down. How will Arbiter2 handle that situation?

Hello,

To understand how arbiter2 handles syncronization a bit better, take a look at SYNCHRONIZATION.md, in particular, the Handling Failures section.

Essentially, if the database server goes down, each individual instance of Arbiter2 will still function on a local basis: Creating penalties, enforcing them, and emailing users, but just for that single host - the penalties/limits will not be populated to the other hosts in the sync group. If the database then comes back up, it will then reconcile its offline state with what is in the database.

In summary, arbiter2 will continue to function 'normally' without a database connection, you will only lose the syncronization of state across nodes in a sync group.
