Identify a way to mark projects to archive

This PR reminded me we needed a way to identify inactive projects cncf/landscape#4315

This could be as simple as a script/tool to check the associated github repo or website. If the website is gone or the github repo is archived via the API we can at least mark it as something make it archived.

Here's a Python script which grabs the repo_urls in a landscape.yml in the current directory and does the audit.

It will print out each URL as it checks. There's a delay between checks, so we don't punch the GitHub API too hard.
At the end you'll get a report of invalid URLs. It doesn't (currently) modify the landscape.yml file, but it could.

  - https://github.com/opentracing/opentracing-go is archived (CNCF Project Status: archived)

It requires a GITHUB_TOKEN in the environment. It also needs PyYAML and requests to be installed.

For example, I use uv to manage Python environments. Other tools are available.

$ uv venv
$ source .venv/bin/activate
$ uv pip install PyYAML requests
$ git clone https://github.com/cncf/landscape
$ cd landscape
$ python ../check-landscape-repos.py
