Does the built-in Date Range filter need another gem?

I can get the components to render but the CUSTOM option doesn't trigger any inputs to show, though I see them in the HAML source. Is there another gem that is supposed to allow for the full functionality?

This is regards to the partial at app/views/effective/datatables/_filter_date_range.haml
