I did, some time ago, something for a similar purpose: #24 I need to double-check similarities/differences/overlaps. However, samlauth's implementation looks really interesting in terms of extensibility.

I have a use case in an ongoing project, so I can work on this and provide a PR with a similar approach as the samlauth plugin.

an adapter to manipulate the group property would also be a good improvement.

currently, if groups is a string like "member reader editor" then the current code produce one group with "member-reader-editor"

I was planning to work on this (essentially copying what wcs.samlauth does), but our client delayed this new feature in the project, so I couldn't tackle it.

Please go ahead and I will be happy to test it.
