Player Version 5.4.3 (32bit) on Pi3 B+ - High CPU Load (compared to 3.3.0)

If I play the same video on both version there is signifikant higher CPU load on the new version (same hardware):

V3.3.0 (smooth playing video without problems)

V.5.4.3 (felt slower with occasional stutters)

Do you have any idea what's cause and what I eventually change?

3.3.0 is the player version based on older Raspbian releases and default uses omxplayer and newer version 5.x.x uses chromium as default (newer Raspberry OS releases). You can try VLC option in newer releases which should have similar performance as 3.3.0 default option

Hi, not, in V3 omxplayer plays the videos, in V5 you can select which videoplayer, either chromium, mpv and vlc. Try as Ravi says, select VLC or MPV from the group settings, it should be better. Or, like I do in many case, just use V3 software, is still a good choice.

I just tested both alternate settings:

With vlc the cpu usage is lower but the video playback is much slower.
The setting mpv seems to have no effect because the playback uses vlc too?! Or am I wrong?

You can check if mpv is playing just running a "ps -ax | grep mpv" on pishell. mpv should be hardware accelerated just like vlc.

We had to discontinue mpv and it rolls back to VLC. VLC is Raspberry maintained player and usually runs well but in fullscreen.
