Summary: I am experiencing an issue when trying to interpret the results in the DCEtool. After uploading the design matrix and attempting to run a mixed logit model, the tool displays the following error:
"There is a problem related with the variable names. More likely, you combined level names with and without numbers and blank spaces. Save the design and modify the excel file by deleting all numbers and blanks from the variable names."
I made sure to remove all spaces, special characters, and uppercase letters from the column names in the design matrix. However, the issue persists.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Survey Development: The survey was created directly using the DCEtool. The design matrix was automatically generated by the tool.
2. Survey Launch: The survey was conducted externally on the online platform Maptionnaire, where respondents completed the tasks.
3. Preparation to Analyze Results: I wanted to interpret the results back in the DCEtool.
4. Uploaded the cleaned design matrix.
5. Simulated running the survey in the tool to understand how to format the results from Maptionnaire so they would match the required structure.
6. Attempt to Run Mixed Logit: I uploaded the cleaned design matrix and attempted to run the mixed logit model with the settings outlined on the DCEtool website.
Error Encountered: Despite cleaning the column names in the design matrix, the following error appears:
"There is a problem related with the variable names. More likely, you combined level names with and without numbers and blank spaces. Save the design and modify the excel file by deleting all numbers and blanks from the variable names."
Actions Taken:
Removed all spaces, numbers, and uppercase letters from the column names in the design matrix. For example:
Original Column Names: Does not reduce temperature, Is not very effective at flood prevention
Cleaned Column Names: ntemp, nflood
Attempted to re-upload the design matrix and run the mixed logit model.
Observed Behavior:
The same error message persists even after making the above changes.
Expected Behavior:
The tool should accept the cleaned design matrix and allow me to run the mixed logit model successfully.
Files Attached:
designnosp.xlsx: The cleaned design matrix used.

Screenshots:
Error message displayed in the tool and settings of the logit model

Additional Notes:
Here is a detailed preview of the cleaned design matrix used:
task alt optout ntemp nflood nrecr nwater nhabitat naest
1 A 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 .....
1 B 0 1 0 1 1 0 1
1 C 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 .... .....
Any guidance on how to proceed with analyzing results from an external platform (Maptionnaire) back in the DCEtool would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the design matrix, screenshots of the error, and my settings in the tool.
Thank you for your assistance!
