[BUG] Application refuses to open

What OS and Version?

Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
Packet Sender 8.10.4

Description of issue

The new version causes the application to refuse to open. Clicking on the icon nothing happens and trying to run it through the terminal the only feedback is "Aborted (core dumped)"

@Periodic-Thunder 8.10.4 fixed the snapcraft build which runs on Ubuntu. I don't immediately remember what version of Ubuntu the fix was developed on; I did that work back in February. 18.04.6 seems a little old to me for Ubuntu. 26.04 is the latest version of Ubuntu.

Do you need to run a version of Ubuntu as old as 18.04.6?

Ubuntu 18 is no longer supported by Packet Sender as it is marked end-of-life.

Suggestions:

• Try updating the fuse libraries. That is dependency to its AppImage system.
• Try the recently released snap package (as ProfessorTom mentioned)
• Try the debian package from the debian repos. That may bring down dependencies that is missed by AppImage
• If none of that works, try compiling from source. You might struggle some if you require Qt5.

If none of those suggestions work, I'm out of quick-fix ideas. You might need to just stay with the old release until you can upgrade Ubuntu.

Would it be possible to make previous working versions of this software available on the ubuntu software store?

If not what commit/branch/pull request would you recommend compiling from?

I would attack this 2 ways.

1. Start with the previous releases:
   https://github.com/dannagle/PacketSender/releases

Work your way down until you find one that launches. Perhaps it is recent enough for your needs.

2. Take a look at the GitHub Action that compiles for Debian:
   https://github.com/dannagle/PacketSender/blob/master/.github/workflows/build-debian.yml

It is possible that all you'd need to do is tweak that (like the runs-on: ubuntu-latest line, and then you'd have a Debian package or at least a compiled binary that works for you. Check uploaded artifacts to get then. It's possible that might just work as-is. I never tested it on Ubuntu 18.
